Hebrews 5:11-14

Spiritual Immaturity

One can have length of life and not experience depth of life. On the other hand, one can have depth of life while having a short life. Length of life is not necessarily an indication of someone being a mature person nor is being in the church for your whole life a guarantee that you’re a mature Christian. Join us as we finish our study in Hebrews chapter 5 as we are given the signs of spiritual immaturity.

Isaiah 9:6-7

It’s All About Christ

We find in scripture several places where the incarnation is all about Christ. Much of our struggle in life has to do with keeping our focus on what is most important. The Christmas season is notorious for getting us to miss what all of this is about. Join us as we look at a single verse in the book of Isaiah to correct our perspective on the Christmas season.

Hebrews 5:1-10

Christ our Great High Priest

The priesthood for the children of Israel was central to their faith. They understood that they could not go directly to God, but they needed a God ordained representative. For Israel, it required someone from the tribe of Levi. But now we are being reminded by the writer of Hebrews that there are two different priesthoods ordained of God and one is superior to the other. We learn that Jesus is of the line of priests that are superior to anything that Levi had to offer. Join us in Hebrews 5 as we take on the complexity of all of this,  and once we understand, it should cause our hearts to burst forth in thanksgiving.

Hebrews 4:11-16

The Word of God – What It Is & What It Does

The Lord in His mercy has provided to us a resource that has the power to change the course of a human life. Yet as we survey the landscape of the American Church, we repeatedly see the turning away from this invaluable source of strength. Join us as we study the final verses of Hebrews chapter 4 to gain a greater appreciation for God’s powerful Word.

Hebrews 4:1-10

Where Do We Find Rest?

In the Old Testament Israel was given two “rests." They had a time of rest, the Sabbaths and they had a place of rest the Promise Land. The writer of Hebrews uses the example of ancient Israel, of those who failed to enter what God had given to them. The writer points out that these Hebrew believers in his day were about to make the same mistake. Even today we see many Christians who aren’t enjoying the rest that God has given, which isn’t a time or a place, but a person. Join us in our study of Hebrews chapter 4 to discover our place of rest.

Hebrews 3:7-19

Stop Being Mad at God

As we finish chapter three of Hebrews the author writes with a sense of urgency. He urges the reader to understand the grave importance of dealing with their disappointment with God. The author reaches into Israel’s distant past and reminds his readers of that generation that came out of Egypt and what happened when they became disappointed with God. Join us in our study of Hebrews as we learn that nothing good will come out of our private war with God.

Hebrews 3:1-6

Losing Jesus in the Church

How easy it is to become impressed with our devotion, our church, or some other aspect of our spiritual life. These things are good, but they should not be what we set our attention upon. When we surrender the greatest, in order to have what is just good, we are making the same mistake that the Hebrews who had turned to Christ were being tempted to make. Join us in the opening verses of Hebrews 3 as we learn what is to be supreme in the life of the Christian.

Hebrews 2:5-18

Why did the Messiah Become Flesh?

The stumbling block keeping many Jews in the first century from believing that Jesus was the Messiah, was that He was so ordinary. What the writer of Hebrews does for us in the second half of chapter two, is to tell us why the Messiah had to be made like us. Join us to learn how God’s plan for salvation was from eternity past.

Hebrews 2:1-4

Why We Drift

The great threat to the son or daughter of God is not suddenly finding ourselves in the middle of a moral collapse, but rather finding ourselves slowly drifting from our passion for Christ. The opening verses of Hebrews chapter two are valuable, for they tell us why we drift and how to cure it. Join us in our study as we discover why we are prone to wander from the God who loves us.

Hebrews 1:4-14

Expectations and Discipleship

Many followers of Christ have had their walk with Christ derailed by painful experiences that have come into their lives. It is easy in those moments to make decisions that are rooted in emotion rather than truth and logic. Frequently those emotions will ultimately take us away from the will of God. Join us as we finish chapter one of Hebrews, to learn how to correct our perspectives.

Hebrews 1:1-3

Superiority of Christ

As we begin a new study in the book of Hebrews, we are dealing with Christians that have allowed their priorities to get out of order. Pressure and disappointment were causing some to turn their attention and devotion away from Christ towards other things. The writer of Hebrews begins to lay out how Christ is better than anything that a religious world has to offer. Join us as we receive insight concerning the superiority of Christ.

What to Avoid?

As we finish our study in the book of Titus, the Apostle Paul closes out with an explanation of what is toxic to a church. Today we see both toxic churches as well as toxic church leaders. Titus 3:1-8

Impacting Culture

A casual assessment of how the Church today is impacting the culture will discourage most of us. It seems apparent that the culture is being far more effective in changing the Church rather than the Church changing it. Jesus said let your light so shine that when men see your good works they glorify your Heavenly Father. Our good works are the very thing that God uses to change the culture. In this final chapter of Titus, we learn what those works are. Join us in our study of Titus to learn how to let your light shine.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness | Matthew 18:21-35

Why do we forgive? As Christians, the power to forgive doesn't flow from our feelings or whether we think the person requesting forgiveness has earned it or deserves it. In the parable of the wicked servant, Jesus reveals the Father's perspective and expectations concerning the role of forgiveness in the heavenly kingdom.

Titus 2:9-15

Who is Christ?

Perhaps the most important question in life is one asked by Jesus in Mathew 16:15. Jesus put it this way, “But who do you say that I am?" This is a question that has eternal ramifications. Where we find ourselves in our study in the book of Titus answers that very question. Please join us in Titus chapter two, as the Apostle Paul makes it crystal clear who Jesus Christ is.

Join us as we continue our study as we make our way through the opening verse of chapter two.

Titus 1:1-9

Holding Fast to the Faithful Word of God

Titus found himself on the island of Crete left there to set the churches on a healthy course. To that end, Titus was instructed by the Apostle Paul to establish healthy church leaders. We discover that healthy leadership has little to do with ability. The spiritual health of a church is rooted in the character of those who are leading. And that character is rooted in a relentless grip on the inerrant Word of God. Join us as we begin our study in the book of Titus.

2 Timothy 2:1-13

Our Faithlessness & His Faithfulness

The Bible is the history of man being an unfaithful lover of God. Throughout its pages, we find countless stories of people knowing what they should do to please God, but in the end failing to perform that which was right. Sadly, that’s our story as well. But Paul brings some good news to us in 2 Timothy chapter 2, reminding us of the faithfulness of the one we serve.

2 Timothy 1:1-7

How is Faith Passed to the Next Generation?

Exercising Yourselves Unto Godliness

The Apostle in 1 Timothy 4 tells us that physical exercise profits a little. His counsel to Timothy was to make sure that Timothy was exercising his spirit. The CDC tells us that 80% of Americans don't get the recommended amounts of exercise each week. It’s a sure bet that the numbers are even worse when it comes to those in the church getting their spiritual exercise. But how does one exercise themselves spiritually? The Role of Women in the Church

It seems that the church today views women’s involvement through two extreme lenses. One takes the approach that women are to be barefoot, pregnant, and hidden from sight. Goofballs and Dictators

Goofballs and Dictators

The Church in America often finds itself with a shortage of leaders that fit the description of leadership that we see in the Apostle Paul. A better share of the time the church is being led by those who have no business being in leadership. Many of those who end up in leadership are ambitious goofballs or dictators. Chapter three of 2 Thessalonians is so important for we find an example of what we should be looking for when it comes to those who are in leadership positions. Join us in the opening verses of chapter three as the Apostle Paul models Biblical leadership.

Why Does God Send Deception?

2 Thessalonians 2:11-17

In our study this week we read, “Therefore God will send them a strong delusion, that they should believe the lie”, God, not just allowing deception but sending it, is something that might make us uncomfortable. And yet it’s exactly what we read as we close out the second chapter of 2 Thessalonians. So, does this make God unjust or even a liar? Join us as we sort out this difficult passage.

The Disciple and Stress

Most Americans are suffering from high levels of stress, with a large number reporting that their stress levels have increased over the past five years. We struggle with marriage and family, money, and health issues, in fact the list of causes of our stress is probably endless. The church in Thessalonica not only was dealing with the stress of life but also persecution. The Apostle Paul begins to write to this church to bring comfort and to assure them that they were not forsaken by God. Under stress we are prone to accuse God of being unfaithful to His word. Join us in this study of 2 Thessalonians chapter 1, to learn that God is even at work in our times of struggle.

Human Trafficking and the Church's Response

Human Trafficking and the Church's Response

Human trafficking is modern day slavery which affects 27 million people globally, and almost a third of those are children. Our last two presidents have pledged to dismantle, abolish, and restore the most basic rights to those who are enslaved. Proverbs 31 tells us to open our mouths for those who cannot speak for themselves and to ensure justice for those that are crushed. Join us as we welcome Cory Nickols from Destiny Rescue to share with us what their organization does, how children's lives are being changed, and what the church can do to help support and be an advocate for those who are enslaved in human trafficking.
