Walking Circumspectly in 2020

How to Live in Evil Days

As we head into the beginning of a new year, we see new challenges facing the Church. If we’ll take a moment and be honest with ourselves, we’ll have to admit that the Church is no longer impacting the culture around us. Signs are all around us are indicating that something has seriously gone wrong. Join us as we seek to find insight from Ephesians chapter 5 on how we are to meet the challenges we now face as we enter 2020.

Christmas 2019

The Christ Child is the Revealer of Hearts

Matthew chapter two gives us the three reactions to the Christ Child that was on display in first century Israel. Every human being throughout history, even up to the very day that we’re living, can be placed into one of these three categories. Which one of these three do you fit in? Join us as we look at how our reaction to the Christ Child reveals what is in our hearts.

James 5:1-9

Is Having Great Wealth a Sin?
Arriving at chapter five of the book of James we come to the subject of wealth. The American culture now seems to be turning on the rich. It now appears to the average American that having wealth amounts to being guilty of the unforgivable sin. What seems to be the chief concern to James is not having wealth, but how did you come to posses your wealth and now that you have it what are you doing with it? Join us in the opening verses of chapter five as we seek to discover God’s view on having wealth.

James 4:13-27

Playing God With Our Lives

We might call James chapter four “a cautionary tale of the dangers of playing God”. For the follower of Christ, there can be the temptation to replace Him as the lord of our life with ourself. What James does is to inform us on why we are ill-equipped to be our own God. Join us as we finish out chapter four with a warning we all need to hear.

James 4:7-12

Doing Life God’s Way

As we come to the middle verses of James chapter four, we’re being told how to find peace in the midst of conflict. What we’re confronted with is a choice, choosing to do life God’s way or the alternative. To choose to live life our way places us in a very dangerous position. Choosing to do it God’s way places us in a position of great blessing.

Thanksgiving 2019

God’s Simple Request

One of the most overlooked sins in the Church today is un-thankfulness. What we discover in our study of Psalm 100, is with all that God has done, He asks so little of us. Join us as we look into what God requires.

James 4:1-6

Worship Wars

Arriving at chapter four of the book of James, we are given the cause and the cure for divisions that take place among God’s people. The path that James lays out for us is a difficult one. But James reassures us that if we’ll do things God’s way, grace will be given so that we may do God’s will.

James 3:13-18

Divine Wisdom verses Demonic Wisdom

Deception is always a clear and present danger for the Church. It’s possible to be under the assumption that you’re following God, when in reality you’re headed in the opposite direction. Join us in James chapter three as James lays out what a life looks like that is dominated by God’s wisdom and what demonic wisdom will look like in a person’s life.

James 3:1-12

Taming the Untamable

Living faith, that is faith that produces life in us, is active and life changing. Coming to the third chapter of James, we now discover that there is something in us that no one can control. However, once this living faith is activated in our lives, it can control the uncontrollable in us. Join as we look at both our enemy and our ally in this important struggle.

James 2:14-26

Dead Faith verses Living Faith

Many misunderstand what James is putting forth at the end of chapter 2. Some see a contradiction between what James says here and what the Apostle Paul has told us earlier in the New Testament. James is not pitting works against faith as an either or choice. But rather he is comparing two different kinds of faith. One kills and one makes alive. Which faith do you possess? Join us this week and allow the Word of God to reveal to you whether you are spiritually alive or dead.

James 1:27 - 2:13

The Effects of an Encounter with God

When a life has had an encounter with God, that life will forever be altered. We can say that we’ve had an experience with God, however just saying it doesn’t make it so. James does us a great service by showing us five effects that will be seen in the life of someone who has met God. Join us as we continue in our verse by verse study in the book of James.

James 1:19-27

The Effects Seen When a Heart Has Been Changed

James is laying out the difference between a cultural follower of Christ and an authentic follower of Christ. The difference between the two has nothing to do with where they might find themselves on a Sunday morning. James tells us that where the changed heart will first show itself, is not what a person is doing on a Sunday, but what a person is doing with his or her mouth. Join us as James clearly lays out how a spiritual person lives.

James 1:9-18

Where Evil Originates

We instinctively want to blame someone or something other than ourselves for whatever evil that is present in our lives. But the Word of God let’s us know that the true source of evil in our lives is the one looking back at us in the mirror. As we continue in our study of James, we now see that there is a process to how evil is produced. Join us as we look at how evil is both produced in our lives and is conquered in our lives.

James 1:1

When Salvation Takes Possession of the Soul

What does a Christian look like? Ask that to a hundred people and you’ll probably get a hundred different answers. This is what makes the book of James so valuable, for James cuts right to the heart. As we begin our study in this wonderful book, James tells us that the first place the effects of salvation show up are in one’s attitude towards disappointment. Join us as we look at what a Biblical attitude should look like during a time of trial.

Hebrews 13:15-25

What are the Sacrifices that a Disciple Offers

As we finish today the book of Hebrews, we discover that after the writer spends 12 chapters talking about the great things that God has done, he now takes 1 chapter to describe what we are to do. Among other things we are to offer sacrifices. Of course our sacrifices are every different from those offered in Israel’s Temple. Join us a we learn what acceptable sacrifices are in the sight of God.

Hebrews 13:9-14

Don’t be a Causality of Spiritual Deception

The writer of Hebrews reminds us once again that not all who say they are of God are genuine. We know that there has been deception in the church and there will be great deception in the Church’s future. But we don’t have to be victims of it. Join us in our verse by verse study of the book of Hebrews to see how we can identify “spiritual deception”.

Hebrews 13:1-8

Our Responsibility Towards One Another

As we now begin to close out our study in the book of Hebrews, the writer is pressing on us how we are to live in light of God’s great mercy that He has shown unto us. As we look at chapter 13 for the first time, we’re being shown how healthy Christians behave towards each other. Join us as we focus on how to relate to your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Hebrews 12:16-24

The Depth of your Knowledge of God

One word found frequently in Scripture is the word ‘Revelation” which means to make known or to reveal. God has given us a revelation of Himself because He does want to be known. If you say you have knowledge of God, how deep is that knowledge. Join us as we continue in the Book of Hebrews as we look at what constitutes having a deep knowledge of God.

Hebrews 12:3-15

Consider Christ

As we enter into the twelfth chapter of the book of Hebrews, we are given keys to help us avoid collapsing. The third key that we come to in verse three, is to consider what happened to Christ when He was in the world. The world’s treatment of Him goes far beyond anything that we might experience ourselves. Join us as we consider the world’s response to Christ.

Hebrews 12:1-2

Run to Win

Moving into the final chapters of the book of Hebrews, we come what we might call the practical application of the letter. In heaven there is waiting for us both eternal life and rewards. Eternal life is a gift, based entirely on the faithfulness of Christ. Rewards are the results of our faithfulness in running the race. Join us as we begin chapter 12, to discover what we must do in order to win the race that is set before us.

Hebrews 11:35-40

Two Possible Outcomes of Faith

Coming to the end of the “Faith Chapter” of the Bible, Hebrews 11, we close out the chapter on an interesting note. The writer of Hebrews informs us that faith can lead us to two very different outcomes. What we are encouraged to remember though is no matter the outcome, the heart of God is always the same towards us. Join us as we focus on our value to God no matter what our circumstances of life might be.

Hebrews 11:30-31

What’s your Jericho?

What we have in Hebrews chapter 11 is a long list of people who were told by God to do the ridiculous, and as we come to verses 30 & 31 the scenario is the same. The Lord wanted to lead Israel into a victorious and blessed life, but standing in their way was the impregnable fortress of Jericho. And so with the believer today, God has a desire to lead the disciple of Christ into a life of victory. However, often standing in their way is an obstacle that appears to be unconquerable. But God has a plan even for the impossible. Join us as we learn how to take on the Jerichos in our lives.

Hebrews 11:28-29

When Faith Leads to Difficulty

There are times when our faith in God will lead us directly into difficulty. We see this many times in Scripture. As we travel through Hebrews chapter 11 we see this in the life of Moses. Moses and the children of Israel are deliberately led into a place of no escape. Join us as we look at how faith operates in the environment of the impossible.

Hebrews 11:24-27

The Choices that Faith Makes

Where we end up in life is for the most part the result of the choices we have made. What we learn from the life of Moses in Hebrews chapter 11, is that when a life is governed by faith, that life will be marked by certain choices. Join us in our verse by verse study of Hebrews as we learn about the choices that faith makes.

Where our journey in the Book of Hebrews takes us next, is to an examination of the faith of Moses’ parents. Join us as we look at Hebrews 11:23 and discover the vital role that faith plays in the raising of children.

Hebrews 11:20-22

Faith and the End of Life

Navigating our way through the book of Hebrews we come to chapter 11 verse 20, where there’s a subtle shift in context. Up to this point we’ve seen how faith impacts us in our daily life and the struggles that life brings with it. But now we see how faith impacts a person at the end of their life. What we will learn is faith can cause us to finish well. Join us as we look at faith operating at the end of our lives.

Hebrews 11:11-17

Commands and Promises

God has given both commands and promises in His Word. It’s not unusual for the follower of Christ to find themselves in a situation where the direction God seems to be leading them is away from what He has promised them. What do we do when the command seems contrary to the promise? Join us in our verse by verse study in Hebrews 11, as we take our final look at the faith of Abraham.

Hebrews 11:8-10

Responding to the Call of God

Once a person has been a Christian for a period of time it’s not unusual to develop a sense that God is leading them to say or do something, or to go somewhere. We find ourselves in chapter 11 of Hebrews looking at Abraham and how this man of faith responded to the call of God. Join us as we look at how faith responds to the call of God.

Hebrews 11:5-6

The Church and Culture - Clash of Values

Hebrews chapter 11 gives us a list of those who held true to their commitment to God in the face of opposition from both family and culture. As we come to verse 5, we now study the life of a man who held a different set of values than the values held by the culture. How can we live faithfully in the midst of a culture that is determined to live contrary to Scripture? Join us as we look at the counter-culture life of a man named Enoch.

Hebrews 11:4

Faith of Abel

In our study of Hebrews we come to a man by the name of Abel. What this man’s life shows us is that those who relate to God on the basis of faith have always suffered at the hands of legalistic and self-righteous people. After all, who turned Jesus over to the Romans to have him put to death? The self-righteous religious leaders of Israel. There has always been a war between those of Faith and those of Religion. Hebrews 11:4 now reveals how those who are of the “Faith” are to live.

Answering Pro-Gay Theology

Join us for our guest speaker Joe Dallas as he teaches us on how to speak truth to the pro-gay theology movement. We will address questions like: What does the Bible really say about homosexuality? Did Jesus ever say anything about homosexuality? Are the revisionist theologians interpreting Scripture to fit their worldview? How can the church respond?

Hebrews 11:1-3

What is Faith?

The Hebrew followers of Christ were in a crisis of faith. Some had already abandoned Christianity and gone back to animal sacrifices in the Jewish temple. The writer of Hebrews is encouraging them to keep walking by faith. But what is faith? Join us as we take an in-depth look at the first three verses of Hebrews chapter eleven.

Hebrews 10:19-39

Our Response to this Great Salvation

We have now studied over 9 chapters of how Christ and His New Covenant is supremely superior to anything that the Old Covenant had to offer. Having been so blessed by God, what now is to be our response? As we come to these final chapters of Hebrews what makes them so valuable to us is that they explain the will of God for our lives. Join us as we start here in chapter 10 looking at how are we to live in light of what God has done for us.

Hebrews 10:1-18

The Position and Practice of the Believer

In our study of Hebrews chapter 10, the writer informs us of two important thoughts that should always be on the Christian’s mind. The first is we have a position before God of complete acceptance and the total absence of condemnation. But secondly, there is to be a practice of lifestyle that is to be consistent with the position we have freely received by His grace.

Hebrews 9:16-28

Last Will & Testament of Jesus

We all would be excited to learn that we were in a rich distant relative’s will. Inheritances can certainly change a person’s life. Where the writer of Hebrews takes us at the end of chapter nine, is that all of the followers of Christ have an eternal inheritance coming our way. That inheritance means we are “in” that last will and Testament, and the one that made the will has died. Join us as we further discover what belongs to us as the disciples of Christ.

Hebrews 9:1-15

Don’t Surrender the Greater for the Lesser

The Hebrew followers of Christ were being pulled into the direction of the Old Covenant. Which the writer of Hebrews makes it very clear was an inferior Covenant. It was temporary, symbolic, and couldn’t make the worshipper of God complete. Today the follower of Christ is tempted on all sides by those who are offering spiritual experiences that only serve to remove our attention off of the finished work of Christ. We will be encouraged in Hebrews chapter nine to stick with simple faith in the Son of God who is superior all religious experiences.

Hebrews 8

Better Priest, Better Temple, and a Better Covenant

Chapter 8 of Hebrews is a fresh reminder that what a person has with just a simple faith in Christ alone is better than any other religious expression. When you are in possession of the best, you don’t exchange it for the inferior. The writer of Hebrews once again encourages us to stick with a trust in Christ alone.

Hebrews 7:18-28

The Law Made Nothing Perfect

Chapter seven of Hebrews reveals the glorious truth that Christ accomplished what the Law of Moses could never do, He has brought us near to God. God has changed Priesthoods! Man’s path to God does not run through Levi or Aaron, but through Christ who is of a different order of priests. God Himself has declared that it is through Christ that we have been brought to a place of perfection.

Hebrews 7:1-17

The Source of Salvation

As we arrive at chapter seven of Hebrews, the author points out if the religious system of the Old Covenant could make us perfect before God, it would not have been replaced. There is always a constant struggle in the church of losing our focus on what saves us. Join us as we once again are reminded that it’s a person and not a system that saves.

Hebrews 6:13-20

Overcoming the Problem of Pain

In times of pain, when God isn’t bringing a way of relief, with our limited understanding we think God is limited in His care for us or in His power to perform. The Hebrew believers were finding themselves struggling with this very issue. Doubts were increasing, and thoughts of abandoning a commitment to Christ seemed logical. How do we as the followers of Christ navigate the stormy waters of life? Join us as we look at the final verses of Hebrews chapter 6, to gain insight for overcoming the problem of pain.

Hebrews 6:1-12

The Focus of the Disciple

Coming to Hebrews chapter 6 we come to one of the most difficult passages in all the Bible to interpret. Hebrews 6 has been the battle field for a lot of church wars. Our approach to these opening verses will not be to continue the warfare, but to seek what the writer is pressing on the readers concerning what the disciple should have their attention on. Join us as we seek to gain a clearer understanding on what we should be focused on.
